About the project

Every three minutes, someone needs blood…

Helping our fellow human beings can be performed in several ways, but giving part of our life to someone else by donating blood is a unique act and blood donors are special people. Many people have never donated blood and those who did, donate it directly to someone very close. If all eligible donors give blood twice per year, then definitely, there will be no shortage and we can help in maintaining an adequate blood supply.

“Life Doesn’t Wait” is a CDP project co-funded by the European Union through the AFKAR initiative. It aims at tackling the various blood donation problems in Lebanon by setting up a system to manage and maintain a proper blood supply based mainly on the concept of “donors on demand”.

The objectives of the project are:

To provide blood supply that covers the needs of governmental and private hospitals

To attempt to increase the number of young volunteers/donors in the society through a series of educational initiatives

To grant effective assistance to communities in cases of emergency

To create and maintain an invisible bond among the members of the community

To disseminate humanitarian values especially “the right to live”

By achieving these goals, we will have an adequate and efficient blood donation management system as well as the death percentage resulting from the deficiency of blood transfusion will decrease, the general health of the donors will be maintained by having a good blood quality and the general public will be involved in humanitarian issues.

CDP strongly believes that working jointly with others will result in more efficient and effective job. Gathering efforts will help making beneficial and sustainable projects. Therefore, to make this project a success, we rely on all individuals and organizations who can contribute to this initiative whether by sharing experiences, contacts or ideas.

	Blood Transfusion, in medicine, the procedure of introducing the blood of a donor or blood predonated by the recipient (autologous transfusion) into the bloodstream. It is a highly effective form of therapy and has saved the lives of incalculable numbers of people suffering from shock, hemorrhage, or blood diseases. Blood transfusion is employed routinely in cases of surgery, trauma, gastrointestinal bleeding, and in childbirths that involve great loss of blood.
